//michael newman// Date: October 12, 2015 [edited from hard copy received with the album] I am sending my father, William James Rader's photo album detailing his tour in Kodiak during the Korean War in the US Navy.
He passed away in 1997 at 79 years of age from lung cancer.
i recall that a couple of months later i had to take pics of of a re-enlistment... i was really amazed at the time that someone who had just survived a crash like that would re-enlist...
was flown in a coast guard helicopter to take basic locating pictures, then trudged up the hill with the preliminary investigating team, taking pics as they directed...
Dad was a professional photographer who did work as a photographer for major movie studios and pulbicity magazines of the period before his induction.
When he was recalled to active duty during the korean conflict, my mother was pregnant with me.
Those memories we will send to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
He was activated along with my uncle Charles Balague' (pictured in the album) who served in the US Army in the Pacific and participated in the invasion of Okinawa.
